Dean Adams has won the coveted and prestigious John Bennett Award – Exceptional Young Person of the Year at this year’s IIRSM Risk Excellence Awards, which took place in London on Wednesday (May 22).

Dean is Glidepath Airport Services Manager at Perth Airport (WA). He is responsible for a team of 12 that manage baggage handling systems operations and maintenance at terminal 2 and 3.

The IIRSM (International Institute of Risk and Safety Management, est. 1975) is an international professional body, with 8000+ members spread across 70+ countries, providing recognition, information, and support in all areas of risk and safety management. The Risk Excellence Awards recognise achievements in risk management, from protecting people, to protecting an organization’s profits and reputation.

The John Bennett Award is for persons under 35 who demonstrate dedication over and above what is expected of them, and who can show how they made a positive impact on their organisation/team, to improve its culture and operational performance through risk or safety management. Judges especially looked for individuals who demonstrated excellence and initiative in implementing new and innovative solutions when meeting their organisation’s needs, and who displayed exceptional teamwork and collaboration skills.

Dean Adams ticked all the boxes and beat out the fierce competition to take home the award. The judges based their decision on a comprehensive portfolio of his work in health and safety, including systems, policies and procedures, control measures, etc., that he has put in place over the years.

“It’s great to put myself and Glidepath on the map globally for health and safety excellence. For me personally, it’s a once in a lifetime achievement.”   Dean Adams

Congratulations, Dean, from all of us at Glidepath!! Well done!!

John Bennett was Chairman of the IIRSM from 1996 to 1999. He joined the Board of Governors in 1990 and was instrumental in the growth of the Institute—he was Honorary Life President until his death in May 2015. Recognising young talent was particularly close to his heart.

Perth Airport (PER) is a domestic and international airport at Perth, the capitol and largest city in Western Australia. It is the fourth busiest airport on the Australian continent.
