Glidepath Redeveloped Sydney Airport’s T1 Check-in Counter C for Improved Baggage Flow

Sydney’s international airport is the busiest airport in Australia, one of the busiest in the world, and one of the world’s longest continuously operated commercial airports. Glidepath were contracted to redevelop the T1 Check-in Counter C to improve passenger flow, by automation and improved baggage flow into the existing system (to handle 15 million passengers a year). This presented several challenges, most notably: working in the middle of a fully-operational international terminal in the ceiling space between the upstairs departure hall and the downstairs arrivals hall, and the manoeuvring of large, heavy equipment into place in a tight ceiling space around existing conveyor systems. At Glidepath, we like a challenge! Another challenge was to develop software that seamlessly integrated traditional check-in counters with automated bag drops, where each fed both sides of a single collector conveyor.
